Summer Road Trip 2019
Well, it happened again. I let months go by after swearing I would start blogging once a month...I have no excuses except for procrastination. Those of you who blog regularly-I'd love to hear how you keep up with yours!
I have several I want to post, including highlighting global destinations, and visiting Jamaica for my first FAM (familiarization) trip in June. (It was an absolutely beautiful, amazing, educational and exhausting experience! And I'm so thankful for the opportunity to go…but more on that in the next blog!)
I am currently sitting on the balcony of our condo in Perdido Key, enjoying the last morning of our summer vacation, trying not to think about the busy-ness of school and work that returns next week. This view helps a little…
The gulf coast is an area that many people (from where I live in particular) flock to in the summer months and during Spring break, and rightly so, as it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s a great road trip and can be driven in a day. I personally enjoy the western end of the #emeraldcoast (between Gulf Shores and Pensacola) because it isn’t quite as touristy and crowded, but still offers something for everyone.
My soon to be 14 year old son brought a friend along (because God forbid he just be with me and his nana!) I let them choose what they wanted to do, other than sit and stare at You Tube in the condo all day…so here’s a snippet of our week. (Side note-they did get ONE day to sit around staring at You Tube-it’s their vacation too…and I had a reprieve from constantly making sure they were not sitting in the condo staring at You Tube or Reddit, or whatever.)
Their first adventure was parasailing with Ike’s Beach Service. They had a blast! We followed that up with lunch and bingo at the Flora-Bama Bar (I highly recommend their daily bingo event. It truly is fun for the whole family!) I also highly recommend their Bushwackers.
They didn’t get enough “boat” action on the parasailing trip, so I booked us an afternoon catamaran cruise. Sail Wild Hearts has a beautiful boat and fun crew-we had a great time!
Another “must-do” on their list was the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. We happened to visit on a day they were having a naturalization ceremony (bonus!) so it was fairly crowded, but definitely worth a visit.
We had plenty of downtime around the condo/beach as well…they met some new friends, found they enjoyed putting together puzzles, and may have put some furniture in the pool…#shenanigans (There was no damage done to the furniture, the pool, or the boys!)
Before I go, I need to mention some of the great restaurants we visited (there was NO cooking on this trip…it’s my vacation too 😊) Lillian’s is a great pizza joint and lucky for us it was right across the street from our condo! We had sushi from a little restaurant and lounge down the street, The Jellyfish. We came across a super cool restaurant on the bay, GT’s-I highly recommend sitting out back- you’ll enjoy the views and the tunes! And of course we can’t forget the Flora-Bama bar…good bar food and delicious char-grilled oysters!
If you’re looking for an easy beach vacation, I highly suggest visiting the Emerald Coast. Whether you’re looking for a road trip, a family vacation or an adult-only getaway, it’s a great place to visit. Want more info?
